The grave of “Baby Dawson” still remains in the once booming copper mining town of Phoenix, British Columbia September 24, 2011. Started in 1891 the town was built around rich deposits of copper but by 1919 when prices fell and mine closed the town was deserted by thousands. Nothing remains of the small city today except the graveyard and World War I war memorial. British Columbia has one of the largest collection of ghost towns or derelict communities in the country. Many are past mining towns that harvested copper, silver and gold and are either gone without a trace or lie in ruins ravaged by time. Picture taken September 24, 2011.
